Using Altech Netstar's fleet management and stolen motor vehicle recovery system enables you to know the location of your vehicle at any time. The Altech Netstar control centre has advanced facilities to monitor and track vehicles fitted with Altech Netstar vehicle tracking devices. A GPS receiver in the VBU unit (installed in the vehicle) uses the Global Positioning System, which is a constellation of 27 earth-orbiting satellites. The receiver locates four or more of these satellites, figures out the distance to each, and uses this information to determine its location. This and other information such as speed is then communicated to the Altech Netstar Control Centre through a GSM/ Cellular network such as Celtel or MTN, using SMS messages or GPRS (data packages). The database server at the Control Centre is updated and a web based application is used to allow the client to access this information - the vehicle position is indicated on a map and updates with time and speed.
Fleet management and stolen vehicle tracking and recovery
With the Altech Netstar system clients are able to locate the whereabouts of their vehicle as well as calculate vehicle productivity and control routes. Harsh breaking, acceleration and excessive idling can all be identified. Clients have instant data access via the internet, LAN or leased line facilities, and can set up and view different types of information such as vehicle information, location, trip history and different report types for violations. Altech Netstar not only tracks stolen vehicles but also recovers them, using a unique recovery operations network that covers most of the central and southern African region.

Clients that use the Altech Netstar system include Zambian Breweries, Zambia Bottlers, Bank of Zambia and the Zambian Government (Office of the First President, Cabinet Office, National Assembly, and most Government Ministries).
