Mercy Flyers organise specialist surgical outreaches to remote hospitals throughout Zambia. They take specialist medical care to those in remote parts of Zambia and living in poverty who would otherwise not have access to such health care. They give medical education in Lusaka and remote hospitals across Zambia. Mercy Flyers also provides a consulting service to the Intensive Care Unit at the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka.
Mercy Flyers' work
Working in partnership with Flying Mission*, Mercy Flyers provides an aero-medical evacuation service to Zambians, missionaries and aid workers, from any airfield in the country. This service is part of their charitable service and it is offered as cheaply as possible. All the Mercy Flyers staff are professionally trained and certified, offering their service for free as volunteers. Mercy Flyers' aircraft are modified for medical use, with oxygen and a stretcher on the aircraft. Their commercial pilots are trained for advanced bush operations. Medical cover is provided up to 'critical care' consultant level, as the patient's need demands.
Note that Mercy Flyers is a charity that helps local people, missionaries and aid workers. It does not transport insured clients or those that can afford private evacuation. They ask that these clients contact Specialty Emergency Services instead.
