Responsibilities

  • Direct activities related to dispatching, routing, and tracking transportation of oil to different parts of Zambia
  • The Transport Manager will also Plan, organize and manage the work of subordinate staff to ensure that the work is accomplished in a manner consistent with organizational requirements
  • Responsible for selecting and maintaining vehicles in order to keep deliveries and distributions on schedule and within its established budget
  • Planning routes and load scheduling for multi-drop deliveries
  • Allocating and recording resources and movements on the transport planning system
  • Booking sub-contractors and ensuring they deliver within agreed terms
  • Direct investigations to verify and resolve customer or shipper complaints
  • Serve as contact persons for all workers within assigned territories
  • Implement schedule and fleet policy changes
  • Collaborate with other managers and staff members in order to formulate and implement policies, procedures, goals, and objectives
  • Use GPS trackers on the entire fleet to monitor where the vehicles are and drivers’ habits
  • Monitor operations to ensure that staff members comply with administrative policies and procedures, safety rules, union contracts, and government regulations
  • Promote safe work activities by conducting safety audits, attending company safety meetings, and meeting with individual staff members
  • Develop criteria, application instructions, procedural manuals on road safety
  • Lead and coordinate tools meetings
  • Making arrangements to ensure that the vehicles are maintained properly, including the inspection of vehicles at the appropriate time and the action taken to remedy defects found
  • Reporting and recording vehicle defects highlighted by drivers
  • Establishing the method of compilation and the accuracy of all records, which must be kept for a period of no less than 15 months
  • Making ensure that the trucks are not overloaded and they are in road worthy condition
  • Ensuring that authorised vehicles will be kept at the authorised operating centre(s) when not in use.

Qualifications

  • Strong technical understanding-trucking and rail haulage
  • An analytic mind and good numeracy skills
  • Excellent geographical knowledge
  • Good people management and coordination skills
  • Excellent financial acumen
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills
  • Extensive knowledge of the transportation industry
  • Good intuition to make crucial judgment calls
  • Advanced Diploma in Logistics & Transport (CILT) OR
  • Degree in any engineering or commercial field
  • Must have at least more than 3-4 years working experience in Transport and Logistics in oil or manufacturing industrial or related industry
  • Experience on the use GPS trackers will be a plus
  • Have good communication skills
  • Experience of working in a multinational environment is an added advantage
  • Must be a member of a relevant professional body
