Prana: Safari accommodation
The Prana accommodation is tucked away in the quiet Zambian bush about 20 minutes from the main town of Livingstone. Prana itself takes its name from the Sanskrit for 'breathe', 'vital energy' or 'life force'. It offers guests an opportunity to take a well earned break in the exciting travel destination of Livingstone, Zambia. Prana is a good 15 minute drive from the main road that runs through Livingstone in Zambia. The beautiful uninterrupted natural surroundings at Prana complete the experience, whether you are sipping an early morning tea or coffee, or indulging in a really tall and exquisitely cool sun downer at the end of the day.
Wildlife
There's some Zambia wildlife to enjoy with bird tables dotted around the gardens and outside each tent to attract the varied local bird life. You’re likely to see the emerald cuckoo, paradise fly catcher, blue wax bill and the 'go away' bird. Other visitors to the area include elephant, guinea fowl and impala. The Prana approach will appeal particularly to informed eco-aware travellers, as Prana aims to ensure that every visitor 'refreshes their soul' in a peaceful and private environment. Although Prana is such an oasis of calm, it is not far from the many activities in Livingstone if that is what a guest is looking for and the Prana team can help arrange these on your behalf.
Livingstone accommodation - cottage and safari tents
Prana cottage is a large red brick living space with three air conditioned spacious bedrooms (one double and two twins). It has three bathrooms and it can accommodate six adults and three children. A roomy open plan kitchen, dining room and living room fills the first floor. The entire second storey was designed with one purpose in mind - relaxation. It is used for spa treatments, yoga classes, meetings or simply chilling out and enjoying the views of the Zambia bush. The safari tents are en-suite and offer hot water on demand. All tents have twin beds and comfortably house two adults and a child. Privacy has been carefully considered in the positioning of the tents. Seclusion and solitude are pretty much guaranteed at this Zambia lodge. Prana is fully serviced with staff on hand to help prepare all your meals. Staff will also light your fire for an African style BBQ... and clear away while you enjoy an Amarula (an African cream liqueur made from the exotic Marula fruit).
Eco philosophy
Prana supports the recycling of water and has invested in renewable resources for energy wherever possible. The Zen gardens and water wise plants conserve water, and the hot water and lighting is solar powered. Local and organic produce is sought out as the ingredients for the speciality Zambian dishes at Prana, with herbs from the extensive herb garden. It conserves heat and water as much as possible, reduces oil and gas carbon emissions, composts waste food, recycles, uses biodegradable cleaning agents, sources food locally, offers local employment, teaches staff about green practices, and cares for wildlife in the area. It definitely qualifies as an eco friendly destination!
