Leopard Lodge is a secluded, family-run game lodge on the banks of the Kafue River in the Lunga game management area. The five en-suite chalets are all individually sited for privacy, and all have Kafue River views. The elegant Rhodesian Teak furnishing in the chalets complements the African Colonial décor. The chalet bedding is 100% percale cotton linen – bliss after a busy day in the bush! Ceiling fans keep rooms cool, and mosquito nets protect from mosquitoes.

For those who prefer to 'rough it' with a close to nature experience, there are six campsites at the lodge, with both ablution and catering facilities. The emphasis is on outdoor living and a large deck that extends over the Kafue River is the ideal venue for breakfasts, lunch and relaxing during the day. Dinners are enjoyed around a fire, however if the weather does not permit there's always the colonial-style restaurant to resort to.

Due to the remoteness and the wide variety of wildlife viewing opportunities, the minimum recommended stay is four nights, however bookings can be made for just three nights (but not less than three). The main tourist season is from mid-May to November. However Leopard Lodge is open during the rainy season as well, and you can reach the lodge with a 'normal' 4 x 2 vehicle all year round. The gravel road from Mumbwa to the lodge is regularly regravelled and the journey takes approximately 1½ hours.

Leopard Lodge is committed to conservation, protection of the environment and the creation of opportunities for the people from the local area. All building work is done by local craftsmen.

Services available

  • Chalet accommodation - Accommodation in the chalets is full board (all meals). The rates given on the right include two activities per day - choose from game drives, boat cruises, walking safaris and fishing. The rates also cover the cost of coffee, tea, rusks and cereals (early morning), brunch and dinner; drinks throughout the day; local beers, house wine and soft drinks with meals; and park fees. Imported alcoholic drinks and gratuities are charged separately.
  • Camping - Campers need to be self-sufficient. No power is available at the camp site, but there are hot water showers and flush toilet. A sink is available for washing dishes.
  • Activities - Boat cruises, including sunset cruises and day-long boat cruises, game drives, fishing trips and walking safaris are all organised by the Lodge. See the Leopard Lodge safari page for full details. All the activities include two drinks served at strategic points, and, for the short boat cruises, including the sunset cruise, a bar is on board. Please note that, for safety reasons, on game drives, children have to be over six, and on walking safaris, children have to be over 12 years.

Payment facilities
Accepted currencies at the lodge are US$ (but not older than 2003), Euro (except €200 notes), South African Rands and Zambian Kwacha. No credit card facilities are available at the lodge.
