Nsobe Game Camp and Mukuyu Camp both gives ample opportunity for a visitor to enjoy the peace and serenity of the African bush in an environment where no predators exist. Both camps offer trophy and meat hunting for some species - enquire for more details. Visitors can come as day trippers or for longer spells as safari accommodation is available. 'Nsobe' means 'sitatunga' in the local languages, Lamba and Bemba. These rare and shy antelope are naturally present, and around the camps there are hides into which the intrepid can climb at dusk or dawn, sit quietly and, with luck, spot one of them.
The predominant habitat is miombo woodland. Other habitats include dambos, riverine thickets and wetlands. There are also thorn savannah and rocky outcrops. Depending on the time of year, the bush may be dry and brown (perfect for game viewing), or lushly green and thick during the rainy season (rich with wild flowers, tree orchids and wild mushrooms).
Other activities
Nsobe Game Camp has two large crocodile-free dams well-stocked with a number of species of tilapia (bream), carp and barbel. There are three-man canoes for hire, or you can fish from the water’s edge. There is also a swimming pool, and poolside bar and grill. Alternatively you may swim in the dam, or in the natural rockpool - a refreshing bush-style jacuzzi!
Nothing beats a Central African night sky. Being situated 60 kilometres from the nearest electrified town, the Southern Hemisphere constellations and the Milky Way are absolutely spectacular here. In addition, since Nsobe is part of a commercial farming venture, where animal husbandry and aquaculture are practised, tours can be arranged to the integrated fish and pig scheme, and the beef feedlot.
