The Fig Tree Café is a welcome travel break just before the small town of Kabwe. You will see the Fig Tree Café sign on the left, with a small slip road leading off the main road - don't miss it!  The dining room is inviting, clean, well lit and tastefully furnished. Or you can opt to eat outside in the sunshine on benches or the green lawn.

The Fig Tree menu includes full English breakfast, toasted cheese and tomato, chicken mayo, ham and tomato, egg and bacon, burgers and there is always a selection of cakes and milk shakes (coffee, strawberry, vanilla, chocolate or banana). The helpings here are generous and the food, made from locally grown fresh produce, is delicious! Recent additions to the menu include freshly squeezed orange juice and pineapple juice, smoothies (banana and muesli, strawberry or mango flavour), and slush (mango, strawberry, water melon in season).

And then there's the coffee - something Fig Tree Café are very proud of. Only the best Zambian coffee, freshly ground and filtered, is used to make the richest of cappuccino, cape mocha, latté and iced coffee. This is great coffee made by experts. The Fig Tree also provides a good selection of quality local produce from the Kabwe farming community, such as home made jams, honey, a selection of cheeses, and Fringilla sausages, as well as sun dried fruit including tomato, guava, mango, banana. The original art work in the dining room is for sale too, as are a range of creatively-designed hand made crafts.

Run by Anton Staal and Cornelle Naude, you'll get more than just a plate of food here. If you're a regular, just give the staff a call with your order 20 minutes before arrival to find it waiting for you, piping hot! (No texts please)

The Great North Road is part of the Cape to Cairo Road envisioned by Cecil Rhodes. It is a major route in Zambia, running north from Zambia's border with Zimbabwe at Chirundu through to Lusaka, Kabwe, Kapiri Mposhi, Serenje, Mpika, Isoka and on to Tunduma in Tanzania. The road forks at Kapiri Mposhi, with the left hand route leading up to Zambia's Copperbelt Province.
