thezambezi.com, Jollyboys Backpackers and the Livingstone Tourism Association are excited to once again feature the Zambezi on the world paddling stage! Get ready for adventure on the water!
For a week in October from the 22nd – 29th October, the Zambezi River will be the focus for kayakers from around the world with the rekindling of the Zambezi River Festival. Up to 100 amateur and professional white water kayakers are expected from UK, Europe, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia and South America.
Kayakers are always keen to get a chance to brave the waves of the mighty Zambezi River – arguably one of the best white water paddling playgrounds on earth! An added incentive at this year’s event is a $2,500 cash prize!
Paddlers will have a variety of events to take part in over the week, including head to head races, down river races, slalom, raft racing and a final with a twist before the post festival party.
The festival has been well supported by corporate sponsors with prizes including new kayaks from Piranha and Fluid; kayaking holidays from Water By Nature and Kayak The Nile, together with paddling gear and equipment from NRS, Palm Equipment and Kathmandu. Year on year the Zambezi Festival is expected to get bigger and better. It is looking to branch out with more corporate sponsorship and media attention.
To encourage some cheer leading, a free road and raft shuttle will be available for the rodeo events. Some of the world’s best playboaters are due to be in attendance and their tricks are amazing to see! Local businesses are also encouraged to join in a team for the down river raft race.
On the last day of the festival, a competition for the best paddling video will blend into an amazing party with competitors able to enjoy the great Mosi beer and Livingstone hospitality. Contact Jollyboys for more information.
