Kabwata Cultural Village is open daily from 8:00 to 18:00. In the colonial era this area was part of a larger township made up of dwelling huts. The Government of Zambia later acquired the land for the cultural village and designated it a "national monument" preserving it as a reminder of the past (British rule ended in 1964).

Local NGOs are not-for-profit organisations that may work at a national level in Lusaka, the capital of Zambia, or at a community level in a remote area. And national associations, such as the Law Association of Zambia and the Zambia Leather Industries Association, are NGOs whose territory covers the whole country.

A charitable trust is a type of local NGO run by a small group of people known as trustees. The trustees are appointed rather than elected, and there is no wider membership. In contrast, civil society organisations are non-state actors whose aim is to unite people to advance shared goals and interests. There are many charitable trusts and civil society organisations in Zambia.

There are also many self-help associations in Zambia, which are informal groups of people who come together to address their common problems. There are also several Cooperative Societies. These are more formal voluntary associations which also aim to serve their members. They are a form of business in which individuals join hands for the promotion of common goals.
