Membership

The sport golf in Zambia is regulated by Zambia Golf Union. Members of the Union shall be those clubs in Zambia which, after applying for membership to the Union, have been so elected. To qualify for membership of the Union, a member shall operate a regulation golf course comprising a minimum of nine holes. In Zambia, there are a few sports clubs, and specifically, golfers including the Lusaka Golf Club, Chilanga Golf Club and Chainama Hills Golf Club, although according to the Zambia Golf Union there are more than twenty clubs operating a minimum of nine holes in the country.

Rules

Two basic principles underlie nearly all the rules: first, players must play the course as they find it and, second, they must play only their own ball, and not touch it (except to hit it with a club) until play is completed on the hole. These principles ensure challenging conditions, demanding skilled shotmaking, and imposing penalties for the loss of one's ball.

Zambia Open - this is a men's professional golf tournament played in Zambia, that has been part of the Sunshine Tour since 1996, and was co-sanctioned by the European-based Challenge Tour from 2001 to 2004. It was also an event on the Challenge Tour between 1991 and 1993, having previously been part of the now defunct Safari Tour.
