Kabwata Cultural Village is open daily from 8:00 to 18:00. In the colonial era this area was part of a larger township made up of dwelling huts. The Government of Zambia later acquired the land for the cultural village and designated it a "national monument" preserving it as a reminder of the past (British rule ended in 1964).

There are many self-help associations in Zambia. They comprise of groups of individuals whose purpose is to further their common goals, to help improve and sustain their quality of life as well as the environment in which they live. One such organizations main thrust is skills and business development training although it is also involved in provision of funding and market support to micro entrepreneurs, networking and market linkages supporting community social groups and establishment of community self-help groups.
