Kobs offers a reliable, efficient service with a fleet of seven 69-seater coaches. Pioneers of the Zambia-Malawi bus route, the route stretches from Lusaka city right up to Lilongwe. The company recently extended its route to include Lusaka to Ndola, enabling passengers from Chipata to conveniently make their way to Ndola.

Bus and coach travel in Zambia

Bus travel is a popular mode of transport for both local and international visitors to the country. There are a number of bus operators available, offering both economy and luxury rides. Many also offer cross-border journeys, into neighbouring states making for an authentic African travel experience. The coaches are comfortable and feature normal coach creature comforts and some even have specially designed sleeper chairs to make your ride more pleasant. In addition, several private companies run comfortable European-style express buses along the major routes which include between Lusaka and Livingstone, Lusaka and Chipata, and Lusaka and the Copperbelt region. Some bus operators in Zambia offer business class buses with high grade reclining seats, calf support and extra leg space. These ultra-luxury buses are designed to give first class luxury and comfort at affordable prices.

Facilities on board

Most coaches offer double and single decker luxury coaches which feature audio and visual entertainment, reclining seats, air-conditioning, reading lights, heaters and onboard toilet facilities. Some coaches are also equipped with safety technology such as drive cam, satellite tracking, and advance fire protection. The coaches are well maintained and comfortable, and they tend to reach their destinations in good time - albeit sometimes at high speed.


The first bus leaves as early as 05.00 in the morning - and fairly punctual too; it's advisable to be there half an hour ahead of the listed departure time and tickets for these buses can often be bought the day before. They have a seat number system in place, in order to avoid confusion when boarding. Coaches have scheduled stops along the route and this will be announced by the on-board crew before a scheduled stop.


Each fare-paying passenger is permitted to take, free of charge and at own risk, two pieces of luggage, each of which does not exceed 80 cm x 60 cm x 30 cm in size, of a total mass not exceeding 20 kg for local routes, and 30 kg for cross-border routes. Luggage will be weighed, and luggage exceeding the allowance will be charged an additional rate per kilogram. Passengers should receive an Inter-cape luggage sticker when boarding, which you should keep safe throughout the journey.
