Specialist, Technical Network Specialist

Information Technology: systems development, business analysis, architecture, project management, data warehousing, infrastructure, maintenance and production

Job Purpose

o To provide Technical Support by providing efficient and quality service delivery through IT help desk

o To ensure smooth operations of IT equipment and the network infrastructure deployed in the country

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities

o Installing, maintaining and support of the Bank’s IT networks infrastructure in line with agreed Service Level Agreements between the IT department and user departments at Head Office and branches

o Carry out user management and administration work on the bank’s network in line with approved access levels from the Operations department and implement security systems to manage access control and compliance

o Conduct periodic checks on the installed computer and network infrastructure and produce reports for review by the line manager

o Ensure that all network equipment is configured according to the group’s security standards.

o Configuring routers, switches, firewalls and other network accessories in line with Group standards.

o Implement change requests related to network infrastructure or assign as necessary

o Ensure that all infrastructure related issues are logged on Team Track

o Participate in project implementation as assigned.

o Maintain network equipment inventory

o Any other duties as assigned by the Manager – Networks and Data Centre

Important relationships

o Liaison with Stanbic Africa IT Call Centre to resolve escalated problems and problematic Change Requests

o Liaison with the Business Units

o Liaison with Data Centre Management team in South Africa

o Coordination with other Units in IT, i.e. Application & E-banking and Computer Centre

o Updating and escalation of issues to Manager – Network and Data Centre

o Other stakeholders – Vendors & Service providers (Network providers and Internet Service Providers)

Preferred Qualification and Experience

o Knowledge

o Diploma or higher in Computer Science or related field

o Technical expertise and experience in computer networking and network security.

o CISCO (CCNA/CCNP/CCIE) certification preferable

o Good knowledge of Microsoft products and UNIX

o Good knowledge of router, switch and firewall configuration.

o Good knowledge of the operations of the ISP industry in the Zambian market.

o Be mature, responsible and appreciative of the bank’s core business.

Experience

o Two years Technical support and infrastructure experience required

o Two years experience in the maintenance and support of computers and other related equipment.

o One year experience in managing LAN/WAN.

o Should be able to communicate easily with non-technical members of staff in the Bank on matters related to IT and exercise patience with users

o Abreast with latest trends in technology

Knowledge/Technical Skills/Expertise

o Problem solving

o Quick identification of problems and offering timely solutions in order to attain minimal downtime and inconveniences to users in the Bank System related solutions

o Ensuring that all installations are in line with Group IT policies

o Investigate root cause and devise means to remedy

o Manage work volumes during projects and Change Request implementations

o System related solutions

o Conduct research and analysis for system related problems

o Ability to understand latest technology

Planning

o Daily to monthly planning required

o Daily planning for supporting systems

o Weekly planning for Change Requests testing and implementation

o Weekly to monthly system maintenance planning

Decision making

o Prioritise incidents to be resolved

o Sending resources on site to resolve problems

o Escalation of severity one issues to the line manager

o Ability to assign work to the correct support officer
