Malaria Surveillance Technical Officer, MACEPA

In the last several years, remarkable progress has been made in fighting Malaria worldwide. Advancements in prevention and treatment have resulted in marked reductions in illness and death. Eliminating malaria is achievable using existing tools and a focused strategy, and the Malaria Control and Elimination Partnership in Africa (MACEPA III), a program at PATH, is working with its national partners to chart the forward through the development of an evidence-based framework to guide countries through a comprehensive set of program interventions to elimination. PATH is seeking to recruit a Malaria Surveillance Technical Officer to assist with backstopping the key malaria surveillance activities and ensuring data quality of submitted data on the system is in line with Ministry of Health guidelines. This system uses a web-based instance of District Health Information System 2 (DHIS2) a mobile client developed in JAVA and Tableau visualization software.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with web-based server to keep client information updated.
  • Work with web-based Tableau software to improve visualization of malaria surveillance data
  • Monitor weekly and monthly data reporting to ensure timely and quality reported data by health facilities and sub facilities through routine analysis and supervision.
  • Support malaria data quality audit to ensure quality data.
  • Understand and promote common surveillance system definitions for consistent uptake and use throughout those involved in system roll out.
  • Provide technical support to Mobile Client operators in areas related to data collecting, analysis, implementation, hardware operation and trouble-shooting.
  • Support Malaria surveillance trainings and provide regular capacity building in areas related to Data collection, data submission and visualization at all levels.
  • Work with the NMEC, local MOH representatives and MACEPA staff to ensure appropriate software and hardware required for rapid reporting is in place at all levels.
  • Work with MACEPA administrative staff to develop training budgets, manage workshop logistics and ensure activities comply with PATH accounting practices.
  • Represent MACEPA for various activities as and when required

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field including Health related fields, Social or Economic sciences
  • Minimum one (01) years’ experience working with infectious or vector-borne disease surveillance systems
  • Experience with District Health Information System 2 (DHIS2)
  • Proven experience in conducting adult learning trainings
  • Good experience using computers and internet
  • Training Skills
  • Good familiarity with Microsoft office packages
  • Good communications skills
  • Must have legal authorization to work in Zambia.
