Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) Project Coordinator

CARE, an International Non-Governmental relief and development organization with various projects in Central, Copperbelt, Eastern, Muchinga, Luapula, Lusaka, Northern, North-western, and Southern provinces of Zambia, has the following vacancy available in Solwezi – North-Western Province:

Job Summary

  • The post holder will coordinate the implementation of CARE‘s Sexual and Gender-based Violence (SGBV) prevention and response program in Lumwana in order to strengthen the existing response systems already established by Lumwana Mining Company administration. S/he will facilitate project implementation in accordance with CARE Zambia’s operational plans, the Terms of Reference for the assignment as well as professional project methods and standards. The project is designed to take a systems approach and will enhance the capacities of the existing systems within Lumwana to respond to SGBV related issues. CARE will also work with the existing structures in the township and surrounding communities to undertake activities aimed at altering the social and cultural patterns that promote Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV).

Specific Deliverables

In consultation with the Lumwana Property Development Company (LPDC) management, duties will include:

  • Facilitating the review and strengthening of existing SGBV services and ensure they are in line with approved WHO standards.
  • Facilitating the development of referral pathways to guide both service providers and SGBV survivors to ensure SGBV services are well coordinated among service providers and SGBV survivors have a clear understanding of how to access these services.
  • Facilitate and organize the training of existing service providers and identified volunteers in the use of the standard operating procedures (SOPs) relevant to the referral pathways
  • Conducting safety audits to explore the areas, facilities and services where the community feel safe and unsafe so that mitigating measures can be put in place to increase their physical safety and sense of security.
  • Establishment of Women Friendly Spaces (WFS) and Survivor Support Groups (SSG) in the township and surrounding communities
  • Development of an array of informational, educational and behavior-change communications (IEC and BCC) to help individuals and groups to challenge harmful norms and behaviors
  • Training of Men’s Network Groups and Youth Champions in the SAA methodology to facilitate behavior change
  • Facilitate the training of Youth Champions to establish Youth Friendly Spaces in the schools and undertake SGBV sensitizations

Qualifications/ Experience

  • Diploma in social work or other related field
  • 3 years experience in relevant field.
  • Ability to develop action plans and implement related decisions within job requirement
  • Ability to interact and create strategic relationships that will enhance collaboration with partners, stakeholders and relevant authorities.
  • Ability to build team work and establish good working relationships within the organization to enhance productivity.
  • Be able to safeguard and account for property within the role’s span of authority and recommend procurement of required goods and services as provided for by policy.
  • Be able to transmit information clearly in order to achieve objectives and be able to provide concise reports and timely submission as required.
