District Supervisor / Field Superintendent / Project Coordinator

(Mining Industry)

Reports to: Regional Superintendent or Exploration Manager

Team: Field Operations Support

Primary Purpose

  • To plan, manage and oversee the delivery of operational and logistical support services across multiple projects so that all support resources, facilities and services are provided for safe and effective field operations at a District wide level.

  • Operational Delivery (50%)

1.Develop and implement an annual field support plan for the District:

  • Align operational support and logistics activities and determine priorities based on priorities, customer needs, legislation and business plans
  • Contribute to the development of budgets
  • Manage the deployment of staff, contractors, equipment and other resources to meet project requirements
  • Monitor and report on the achievement of technical and logistical milestones
  • Manage and report on expenditure for operational support and project budgets.
  • Establish contracts with external providers of operational support and logistics services
  • Set and monitor service level agreements and undertake related reporting.
  • Oversight training and induction processes for staff and contractors within the District ensuring understanding and commitment to comply with Rio Tinto HSEC standards, procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide leadership in implementing effective HSEC processes within the District:
  • Identify and evaluate risks and define monitoring regimes to mitigate risk (what, how frequently, quality)
  • Plan and conduct work in accordance with HSEC and compliance requirements by setting and monitoring objectives to ensure standards are met and anticipating and managing risks
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to improve HSEC practices

Manage all equipment within the District:

  • Ensure there is proper maintenance of equipment using internal and external resources
  • Oversee the storage of equipment and ensure an efficient and effective equipment management system is used with inventories as required
  • Identify and action opportunities to reduce equipment and storage costs and lengthen equipment lifespan and utility within the District (eg. by pursuing efficiencies and economies of scale).

Regional Effectiveness (20%)

Educational Background

  • Participate as a member of the District operational support and logistics team to prioritise, coordinate and deploy resources, including staff, contractors and equipment, to address planned and changing support needs across a number of projects. Collaborate to solve common problems and share solutions and learnings.
  • Contribute to planning of operational support and logistics activities to address regional exploration project needs including staffing, equipment, communications and technology needs. Consider both short term (annual) and long term (5 year) needs.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of a District Operational Support Project Manual, and associated guidelines and procedures.

Individual and Team Collaboration (15%)

  • 1.Work with Geo - scientists and other field staff to resolve technical and operational challenges associated with operational support system implementation.
  • 2.Work with Project Managers and Exploration Managers to understand project requirements and advise on District and project operational support and logistics needs; participate in project planning, risk assessment and related activities.
  • 3.Develop networks of operational support and logistics external providers participating in District forums to share best practice and promote alignment of activities with requirements, priorities and directions.

People Focus (15%)

  • Manage operational support and logistics staff and contractors to optimise individual and team performance and ensure staff operate consistently with Rio Tinto values and expected behaviours.
  • Develop the capability of the operational support and logistics workforce through recruitment, training and development, performance management, and succession planning activities considering current and future needs.

Trade/College/University Education:

  • Relevant trade certificate is desirable
  • Tertiary studies in sciences, project management, safety or occupational health is desirable

Other Qualifications:

  • Proficient in English (verbal and written)
  • Other language skills/proficiency may be required relevant to the

  • Licenses/Certifications: Current driving license
  • Relevant heavy equipment certificate is desirable
  • Training:Supervisory training
  • Safety training
  • 4 x 4 wheel drive training
