Business and Operations Manager

Job Overview

  • The Business and Operations Manager is charged with leading the non-academic portions of AISL in support of the school’s
  • mission and vision.
  • The role will encompass finance and operations, as described below. The Business and Operations Manager
  • will report to the School Director and will serve on the Executive Leadership Team to advance the school’s mission and to prioritize student learning.
  • The Business and Operations Manager will serve as the deputy to the Director and will assume responsibility for the organization when the director is unavailable.

Qualifications

  • University degree in Finance/Accounting/Business Administration, or similar area (graduate degree preferred)
  • Proven organizational ability and initiative
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to build strong relationships in a culturally diverse context
  • Effective written and oral communication
  • Previous successful management experience in a similar institution
  • Evidence of ability to supervise the operations of a business office, including knowledge of budgets and financial
  • management; accounting and reporting; cash and asset management; procurement; payroll and human resources
  • Evidence of ability to oversee operational management of a large facility
  • Familiarity with technology in the business setting, including experience in the selection and implementation of financial reporting systems.

Performance Responsibilities

  • Business Management and Accounting
  • Establish, maintain, and supervise business procedures and practices in the following areas:
  • Purchasing, receiving, asset management, and storage
  • Accounts payable and receivable, assets recording and control, and payroll
  • Recording and reconciliation of all school income and expense and balance sheet accounts
  • Identification and implementation of improvements to accounting and reporting procedures
  • Guidelines governing the investment of all AISL funds; manages AISL funds pursuant to adopted AISL investment policy
  • Annual budgeting and the preparation of periodic budget-to-actual status reports
  • Long term financial planning
  • Establish, maintain, and supervise financial accounting controls and reporting procedures to ensure the financial integrity of the institution.
  • Prepare monthly financial reports for the School Director and the AISL Board Finance Committee
  • Provide data to the School Director and the AISL Board Finance Committee on the financial implications of policy/procedure changes
  • Coordinate and oversee business office employees and ensure a strong customer service ethos
  • Coordinate and oversee the annual company audit
  • Maintain an updated Financial Procedures Manual
  • Prepare financial cash flow forecasts for submission to financial institutions relating to financing requirements.
  • Monitor bank loan(s) if necessary. Submit quarterly financial reports and other periodic and annual reports as required by the loan agreement

Facilities and Operations

  • Oversee the managers of the operations departments including maintenance, health & safety, security, technology,
  • human resources, contract maintenance, and transportation
  • Work with operations department managers to cultivate effective teams and ensure a positive work environment for operations staff
  • Establish clearly defined operational protocols to ensure the smooth running of the school’s operations

Other

  • Attend periodic AISL Board of Directors committee meetings.
  • Present updates on school budget and finances at Open Board Meetings.
  • Support the development of our business office and operations employees through inspired professional learning and opportunities for career advancement
  • Seek opportunities for business and operations employees to engage with the academic aspects of the school to inspire connection to the mission and educational program
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities consistent with the position
