Relief Driver

The Netherlands Development Organization (SNV) is an international not-for-profit development organization that believes in contributing to poverty alleviation in Zambia through various programs/projects that it implements. SNV provides services in Agriculture, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, and Renewable Energy. The recipients of these services include governmental institutions, non-governmental organizations and private sector organizations, communities and individual households

Purpose of the Job

  • Transport staff, visitors or errands to destination, based on requests and conform safety and traffic regulations, in order to contribute to timely and safely arrival

Key Activities

  • Vehicle operations and Safety
  • Have end responsibility for use of car, clean and fuel vehicle, check inventory (eg first aid kit, second tire and all accessories) and status of the vehicle, identify any damage and report these to supervisor, arrange and keep track of periodical service schedule and insurance


  • Drive passengers or deliver errands within the identified areas, following the traffic regulations, safety instructions and situations and based on the travel arrangements of the passengers and/or delivery requirements

Technical Maintenance

  • Regularly check and maintain the main maintenance areas (e.g. oil, tire pressure etc), identify technical malfunctions, check potential repair alternatives, conduct repairs to the vehicles and/or send for repair, in consultation with the supervisor in case of complex and/or costly repair
  • Administration
  • Keep logbook of all driving activities, fuel and any incidents and accidents

Additional activities

  • Execute activities to support others based on request, like assist in logistic activities, or support in maintenance of building.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by supervisor.


  • Clean and safe vehicle ready for use
  • Safe driving resulting in timely arrival of passengers/goods at destination
  • Safe vehicles and cost conscience and sustainable reparations of technical malfunctions
  • Up to date vehicle administration
  • Support of other staff


  • Valid driver’s license
  • Basic Knowledge of mechanics
  • Basic knowledge of first aid
  • NGO experience is added advantage
  • At least 3 years driving experience
