Program & Training Specialist – HIV/AIDS

The Program & Training Specialist (HIV) reports directly to the HIV/AIDS Program Coordinator and works closely with the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Specialist. The position is primarily a training and technical position, requiring approx. 25% travel to urban and remote parts of Zambia. HIV/AIDS is a cross cutting program within Peace Corps Zambia supported by the President’s Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). The HIV Programming and Training Specialist (PTS) supports volunteers in all four program areas (Health, Education, Environment and Aquaculture) but is most closely aligned to the Health Project. The Program & Training Specialist provides backstopping support to the HIV/AIDS Program Coordinator and assists the M&E Specialist. This includes coordination and facilitation of the HIV/AIDS technical components of Pre-Service (PST) and In-Service (IST) Trainings to volunteers and their community counterparts; assisting the M&E Coordinator in providing instruction to trainees and volunteers in data reporting, and providing support to Volunteers in the field; liaising with Host Country Counterparts, the USG interagency team and other organizations; participating in project planning and implementation of activities; implementation and support of PEPFAR-related M&E tasks and planning of HIV/AIDS training events.

Specific Tasks and Responsibilities:

Required Qualifications:

  • In order to be selected for this position, the applicant must be legally eligible to work in Zambia, must not have been employed in intelligence-related activities, and must submit an application that clearly documents how they meet each of the following requirements:
  • Diploma in Health, Social Sciences or related field of study is required, a degree or higher in Health, Social Sciences or related field of study will be an added advantage.
  • Three years of substantive experience working in the field of HIV/AIDS in Zambia, including Gender Equity is required.
  • Three years substantive experience working with PEPFAR supported programs in Zambia and its program priorities is required.
  • Three years substantive experience working with data management and program performance monitoring & evaluation is required.
  • Three years’ experience working with international organizations/staff and volunteer management will be an added advantage.
  • Expertise in grass roots development training methodologies particularly using non formal education techniques including programming and training support is required.
  • Good working knowledge of the English language both spoken and written is required.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, including demonstrated ability to work as a team member in a fast paced and multi-cultural environment is required.
  • Proficiency in working with computers, including Microsoft Office suite and Outlook email is required.
