Cashier

The Council of the Zambia Institute of Advanced Legal Education (ZIALE) is looking for a suitably qualified experienced and result oriented person to fill the position of Cashier.

Job Purpose

Reporting to the Finance Manager the Cashier will be responsible for the maintenance of complete and proper banking, payment instructions, cheques issued and other accountable documents to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial accounting and information.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensures timely issuance of electronic and manual receipts to clients
  • Prepares cheques and runs through the system for signatories and under takes banking activities
  • Ensures accurate and timely preparation of payments to suppliers of services and goods
  • Reviews and updates debtors and creditors records in order to maintain reconciled statements
  • Coordinates and updates imprest retirement as per the Institute’s policy.
  • Verifies bank statements at the bank in order to ensure that the Institute maintains the position of solvency all the time
  • Ensures that financial returns reflecting statements of income and expenditure are compiled and returned to the relevant Ministry so that disbursement of monthly or quarterly grants to the Institute is effected on time
  • Collecting vouchers for the daily transactions and ensuring that each transaction has evidence documents which are complete such as invoice, receipt, etc.
  • Management of petty cash and ensuring that all accounting documentation is properly filed.
  • Maintains a debtors’ ledger in liaison with the Finance Manager
  • Perform other duties as may be delegated by the Supervisor.

Qualifications and experience:

  • Grade 12 Certificate with 5 Credits or better including English and Mathematics;
  • Minimum Diploma in Accountancy or equivalent or intermediate qualifications in ZICA/ACCA/CIMA
  • Not less than two (2) years’ experience in the same or related field
  • Must be computer literate and conversant with computer based Accounting Systems such as Pastel Software
  • Must be a member of the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA)
