Zambia National Commercial Bank Plc (Zanaco) is inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced individuals for the following job aimed at contributing to the Bank’s strategic vision in the Risk & Compliance Division under the Policy & Control Department, to be based at Head Office.
The purpose of the role is to establish and manage a targeted independent credit oversight (review) infrastructure and hierarchy to evaluate the quality of credit extension and ongoing management of credit risk within the Bank including adherence to risk appetite, credit policy, policies and regulation. Leading the Policy and Control team to drive and support the identification and management of various credit risks.
Under the supervision of the Chief Risk & Compliance Officer, the following are among the Job Key Responsibilities: –
Creating an effective credit risk management and control framework to ensure that all significant risks are identified, measured, evaluated, managed and approved through the implementation of effective governance structures and hierarchies.
Ensuring that the Bank’s credit risk governance framework is in line with regulatory and internal requirements with regards to policies, procedures, manuals, tools and templates.
Owning the overall Credit Risk Appetite (CRA) process, and working with Credit and business teams to ensure formulation of the CRA statement is in line with business and risk strategy objectives.
Observing, measuring and reporting on the effectiveness of the Bank’s credit controls and providing timely identification and reporting of significant risks and losses effectiveness of risk mitigation actions.
Driving and implementing an effective credit risk management framework along the lines of Integrated Risk Management (IRM) and Basel II.
Fully identifying and measuring of credit risk across range of on and off-balance sheet asset classes.
Conducting regular monitoring of credit limits, in line with regulatory and internal requirements.
Conducting periodic stress testing of the Bank’s credit risk profile in line with Basel II requirements.
Ensuring that all credit-risk related key risk registers and Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) templates are in place and maintained regularly, including the testing of controls by designated champions.
Validating control test result from a second line of defense control perspective (Conformance Review) and channeling feedback on the same to the appropriate governance committees.
Working with Product Approval Committee (PAC) to develop assessment models for qualification of product related credit risks.
Ensuring the credit risks associated with new and changed products, services and processes are assessed and mitigated.
Ensuring that sufficient actions are undertaken to resolve all control weaknesses highlighted through the various credit risk reviews and audit processes.
Escalating significant events to Chief Risk and Compliance Officer as appropriate.
Developing comprehensive reports and presentations that outlines credit risk-related findings, explain risk positions, and recommend appropriate changes.
Provide input on/Champion change to current operating mechanisms to ensure relevancy.
Partner with business heads and other support function heads to develop and execute strategic plans.
Any other responsibilities or tasks as maybe assigned by management.
External: Bank of Zambia, other Banks and Financial Institutions, Bank Auditors, Credit Reference Bureau, other external service providers – lawyers, valuers, etc. Proessional Accountancy Bodies, Trade Associations, Farming Associations etc.
Internal: All Divisions.
Qualifications and Experience:
Grade 12 Credit or above mandatory in Mathematics and English and any other three subjects.
Degree in Accounting/Finance/Economics or ACCA or CIMA.
Master’s Degree or Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management, Banking, Finance, Accounting, or Economics is an added advantage.
Experience: 7 Years or more banking experience of which 3 – 5 Years be in a leadership/Management position in credit management and/or risk management.
Knowledge of risk management, integrated risk management, corporate and retail credit, portfolio workout, regulations, commercial.
Integrated risk management, advanced credit risk skills.
Certifications: Advanced Credit Skills, Certified Risk Expert, Financial Risk Manager, Professional Risk Manager, PMI Risk Management Professional are preferred.
