Kagem Mining Ltd, based in Lufwanyama, is the world’s single largest emerald producer. It covers an area of approximately 41 square kilometers and is in the central part of the Ndola Rural Emerald Restricted Area (“NRERA’), in the Copperbelt Province of Zambia. Kagem Mining prides itself on industry-leading health and safety standards, innovative approaches to engineering and cutting-edge management of unique geology. Since 2008, Kagem is 75% owned by Gemfields, a world-leading supplier of responsibly sourced colored gemstones, in a model partnership with the Zambian government, through the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC). Kagem aims to emulate the values of Gemfields and operate in a way that contributes positively to the national economy, while taking a leading role in modernizing the colored gemstone sector and building sustainable livelihoods for the communities around the mine. Kagem believes that colored gemstones should be mined and marketed by championing three key values – legitimacy, transparency and integrity. Kagem is seeking remarkable candidates to join the team, in the positions of Head Engineering, Materials Manager and Senior Materials Officer. Reports to: Manager Materials Job Purpose: To ensure effective procurement of materials, and adherence to established policies and procedures. Principle Accountabilities To ensures procurement of supplies is done in strict conformity with established policies and procedures. To ensure the effective management and control of all the company’s external suppliers with particular emphasis on purchase of materials and finished parts Effective negotiating with suppliers for favorable terms and right prices for goods/services. Ensure necessary documents are prepared on time to facilitate timely payment to suppliers To maintain and sustain conducive relationships with suppliers To follow up with suppliers and ensure timely delivery of materials. Provide advice to end users on the status of their requests/any queries raised by suppliers Ensures that all departmental resources are used solely for company purpose, without misuse Ensure timely identification of key suppliers (both new and old) who are aligned to the company’s needs in order to broaden the Company supplier base. Qualifications & Experience Graduate Diploma – CIPS / bachelor’s Degree in Procurement & Supplies / Business Administration Minimum 7 years work experience in Materials Management Paid up member of ZIPS Excellent analytical and evaluation skills. Good command of oral and written communication Computer literate. The company provides single status accommodation at the mine site. Reports to: Deputy General Manager Job Purpose: To provide guidance and leadership to engineering department, to ensure all the sections are fully functional to support mining operations Principle Accountabilities Formulation and implementation of engineering policies that contribute to the achievement of the overall Kagem strategy. Preparing annual budget for CAPEX/OPEX. Ensure benchmarked availability of equipment and vehicles to support mine operations. Developing and implementing equipment replacement and disposal based on global best practices Provide technical support on machinery, vehicles, civil and electrical works to other departments Plan and implement for minor and major overhaul of equipment and critical components of equipment/ vehicles to achieve optimal life from them Ensure a clean, safe and hazard free environment while maintaining quality standards at work Ensure compliance to legal and regulatory requirements Control and initiate actions to reduce maintenance costs Plan and develop manpower skills through periodic training to update their knowledge Qualifications & Experience Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical / Automotive Engineering Minimum 15 years work experience on HEMM and Vehicle maintenance, preferably 5 years mining experience in a managerial role. Excellent analytical and evaluation skills. Registered member of EIZ Good command of oral and written communication Computer literate.
