DAY 1 Arrive at Lusaka Airport in time for your road transfer to Mukambi Safari Lodge in the Kafue National Park. You will arrive in time for dinner at your lodge. DAY 2 – KAFUE NATIONAL PARK Kafue National Park is amongst the biggest National Parks in the world, roughly the size of Switzerland. Kafue National Park holds possibly the greatest diversity of wildlife of any national park in Africa and is famous for by its unspoiled wilderness. Day 3: During the second day of your tour, you’ll go on a guided walking safari. Walks leave around an hour after sunrise to avoid the heat of the day. The walks take place in the Kafue National Park itself and are approximately 3 hours. You can also opt for a game drive in the park. The drives are divided into two sessions – morning and late afternoon: A game drive in an open vehicle is one of the most exciting ways to explore the bush. You will enjoy the unspoiled wilderness of Kafue National Park while a highly experienced guide tells you everything about the animals you encounter. Morning Game Drive takes 3 to 4 hours. Your morning drive starts at first light. You will see the bush wake up. On the way, you’ll see elephant, lion, monkey and impala catch the early sun. Halfway we’ll serve you coffee, tea and home-made biscuits. The game drive returns back to the lodge around 10.00 hours where you can enjoy a hearty breakfast. Afternoon-Evening Game Drive starts around 16.00 hours (4:00 pm). Again the guide will take you out to explore the park. Just before sunset, we’ll stop so you can enjoy a sundowner. After the sun sets you will experience the African bush at night. It is a perfect way to find and watch nocturnal animals like a porcupine, civet, honey badger and off course predators like the African wildcat, lion and the elusive leopard. Wildlife Kafue National Park With 158 different species, has one of the highest diversities of mammal of all national parks in the world. The birdlife is also spectacular. Over 515 bird species are found in the park and surrounding areas. Wattled and crowned crane, saddle billed stork, ground hornbill, fish eagle, African finfoot and Chaplin’s Barbet are some the prominent species you are guaranteed to see on your game drive. Every game drive is an adventure. You never know what you will encounter on the way. That is also the charm of the African bush. Always expect the unexpected. After a few hours of your explore in the Park, you will realize that Kafue National Park is not heavily patronized by tourists - there is no mass tourism here. You might meet very few or no other vehicles, the whole day. This makes Kafue one of the last true wilderness areas in Africa. Other activities: You may choose to do other activities such as fishing or boat cruise – the the lodge will arrange that for you. Day 4: After breakfast, will transfer to Nanzhila Plains Safari Camp via Itezhi Tezhi. Afternoon: Arrive at Nanzhila Safari Camp in time for lunch. You will take a rest after a long drive. Evening: Night Game drives – this will be your after-dinner activity. The spotlight that your guide shining on the bush may reveal those species more active at night, for example, leopard, genet and civet. Day 4: Full day excursion: You will depart from the Camp after breakfast and return at dusk, with a packed lunch and refreshments to keep you going. Your knowledgeable guide will take you along the Kasha, Kanyele, Kaunga and Nkala drainage lines and you will stop at the Elephant Orphanage Project, supported by the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation, to see orphaned babies elephants being fed by their handlers. A Lake Itezhi-Tezhi lakeshore drive will introduce you to the surreal beauty of this man-made lake, which is well populated with hippo. The excursion ends with a drive through the mysterious Ngoma Forest before returning to the camp across the Nanzhila Plains. Or A village tour: You will leave the camp after Breakfast to the nearby village where you will learn about the day-to-day lives of people in typical rural communities. Visit a local clinic and school, as well as one of the earliest mission stations north of the Zambezi, and find out how local people interact with wildlife and carry out traditional activities such as fishing expeditions. On this tour, you will also do game viewing. You return late afternoon, a packed lunch and refreshments will be provided. Day 5: After breakfast, Transfer to Livingstone through Dundumwezi – Kalomo route. Arrive in Livingstone in the afternoon, overnight at Maramba River Lodge or The Waterfront.
