Musungwa Safar Lodge is in the un spoilt and truly wild Kafue National Park, 22,500 square kilometres. Musungwa is set high on the shores of the 370 square kilometres Lake Itezhi-tezhi with a breathtaking view. Musungwa is open all year round and is accessible by road from Lusaka (338km) and from Livingstone via Kalomo (320 km). Musungwa is 1km from Musa Gate the main entrance to the southern sector of the Kafue National Park. Jewel on the banks of the inland Lake Itezhi Tezi.

Safari lodges

Musungwa's central complex consists of three large thatched rondavels comprising of the reception, bar and restaurant and conferencing facility. They are designed to blend with the surroundings, utilizing ethnic architectural concepts, maintaining the true atmosphere of the African bush.

Our restaurant proudly presents a rich variety of food to suit all tastes. Fruits and vegetables from our own garden and fish from the lake add that special touch to our fine cuisine. Special dietary requirements are available. Musungwa has become well known for its colourful open-air barbecues (in the dry season) and traditional cultural dancing from the IIa people.

The bar is ideal for relaxing, playing darts or enjoying a few “nightcaps” after a successful days game viewing. The reception area provides information on the Kafue National Park and facilities available at Musungwa. Friendly receptionists are available to assist you with any queries.

Musungwa’s 11 twin chalets and 12 four bedded chalets are simply furnished and fitted with shower and toilet facilities. Each has a private verandah overlooking Lake Itezhi-tezhi. The Sable Suite, ideal for those on honeymoon or VIP guests, offers its own private bar, lounge, two bedrooms (sleeps four), en suite shower and toilet, and open verandah.

Safaris

Musungwa Lodge offers specialist safaris taking you into the heart of the bush by land cruiser, boat or foot, or the chance to relax, soak up the sun at the pool or at your lodge. Whichever is your choice you will take home memories never to be forgotten, the embers of the log fire, the call of the hyena.

At night soak up the stars… countless pinholes in the rich dark African night, the mirage heat, the splendour of the ever changing sunsets, the night orchestra of crickets, the distinct roar of a lion, the dry grass smell of the bush – the real Africa.

Lake Itezhi-tezhi shoreline varies from the grassy banks where the hippo graze to the rocky bays ideal for fishing, to the stretches of submerged trees – wild and wonderful perches, sculpted by nature for the breeding Cormorant.

Lake cruises

Musungwa guides you through this aquatic world in style on the “Zambezi Queen”. The “Zambezi Queen” has become part of Zambian history. Commissioned in the early 50’s as the luxury cruiser for the elite tourists of the time, she cruised along the Zambezi at the head of the mighty Victoria Falls, carrying a host of personalities including Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. Now totally refitted she cruises Lake Itezhi-tezhi for you. Full day cruises and sundowner, booze cruises are available.

Safaris by boat and walking

Enjoy the beauty of Lake Itezhi-tezhi and the Kafue National Park. Camping trips may be arranged where you pop from island to island and share the knowledge of our local guides.

River cruises

From Lake Itezhi-tezhi Dam flows the Kafue River, Musungwa Safaris offers river cruises where hippos and crocodiles and a variety of bird life may be viewed. Fishing trips may be arranged for the keen fisherman. Rods and tackle are available for hire at the lodge.

Combined river cruises

Musungwa offers a combined river cruise with visits to the Longola Hot Springs and Iyanda Village. The change of scenery from Mimbo woodlands to spiraling palm trees makes a dramatic contrast from the African Bush.

Daily safaris

Morning afternoon and evening. They last approximately two and a half hours and are along the lake drive, Ngoma and Nkala loops.

Conference venues

Conference facilities at Musungwa which has a fully equipped conference venue for up to 100 delegates are for companies wanting 'something different'. With activities to promote team building such as squash, tennis, table tennis and a library catering for everyone the active or not so active person.

While at a conference with a difference enjoy the swimming pool. Go on a tree trail – a chance to gain greater knowledge of Zambia's flora all in your own time. And there is a curio shop where a variety of local crafts made by the IIa people. You will find something to suit your taste to take home to remind you of Musungwa.
