Sulfates, mostly found in shampoos (a kind of “detergent” that helps create lather), can have a stripping effect by removing hairs essential oils and contributing to the problem of dryness. Many sulfate-free shampoos don’t lather well, causing the user to think that the hair isn’t really clean. Aunt Jackie’s GIRLS products are sulfate-free, but our shampoo is lather-rich and thoroughly cleanses hair. As for parabens, they are a type of long-lasting preservative. There’s some controversy of whether hormones found in parabens are harmful. There are no parabens in Aunt Jackie’s GIRLS products, but we do use eco-friendly, harmless preservatives both to deliver brilliant shine, but tend to dry out over time, attracting dust and particles, causing flaking and clogging pores. Aunt Jackie’s uses natural oils and butter that deliver shine, but won’t flake, cake or form an unhealthy film on hair and scalp. At what age should I start using Aunt Jackie’s GIRLS on my daughter’s hair? There’s no clear answer to this question. It all depends on the child’s hair type and texture, as well as the stage of development its in. Hair, scalp and skin products used on infants – 3-year-old children, typically have fewer ingredients, as they can be prone to adverse or allergic reactions. Typically, by age 4, youthful scalp and hair starting to develop into a slightly more mature state. If Aunt Jackie’s GIRLS products are healthy for my daughter’s hair, why are there so many strange ingredients on the label? While many products marketed for natural hair claim to have “all-natural,” “organic” or “good-for-you” ingredients, many make false claims and have labels that are not FDA (Food & Drug Administration) or EU (European Union) compliant. These compliance issues are updated frequently, requiring manufacturers to list ingredients, in a particular way, on the label. If a label is fully compliant, therefore we list everything required for both U.S. and European standards. These compliance standards are in place for your safety, informing you of things like potential allergens and other helpful information. This level of compliance makes our ingredient legend a bit long, but we respect your health and the safety of our products. Why are there some ingredients that contain ALCOHOL in Aunt Jackie’s products? There are 2 different classes of alcohols used in the hair products. Some are drying alcohols, which are bad for the hair (making it dry, brittle and crunchy feeling) the others are safe alcohols that are used for enhancing hair’s health, stabilizing fragrances or thickening formulas. Aunt Jackie’s GIRLS only use of alcohol are in the safer class, primarily used to stabilize the fragrance. They have no known negative or adverse affects on hair. What does Co-Wash mean? Co-wash, or “Conditioning Wash,” is a term used to describe shampooing with a conditioner instead of shampoo. Most conditioners have some cleansing properties and will provide a mild cleansing. Most conditioners have some cleansing properties and will provide a mild cleansing. However, hair and scalp must be rinsed very well o remove impurities before co-washing. This method is recommended for really tight, kinky hair that shrivels up and recoils easily. It aids in keeping the hair softer, longer and stretching natural texture. Co-Washing is not recommended for fine, limp textures, as it will make hair feel weighed down. Finally, Co-Washing is not recommended for hair and scalp that has a lot of builds up, as it will not cleanse as thoroughly as shampoo. Are there preservatives in Aunt Jackie’s products? Products without preservatives easily run the risk of forming bacteria, spoiling, and have extremely short shelf lives. While Aunt Jackie’s GIRLS contains NO PARABENS (a chemical class of preservatives), The products do contain eco-friendly preservatives to help sustain shelf life. These preservatives are not harmful to scalp, hair or skin
