Teacher's Academy

The Educore Teacher's Academy is Zambia's first fully practice-based training programme. It offers Diplomas in Primary and Secondary teaching, either through a three year qualification programme for school leavers, or through a one year graduate fast-track programme.

Educore Teacher's Academy

Educore Teacher's Academy uses schools to train local trainees who will eventually replace those that are non-Zambians. The training is carried out at all levels of the programme. Yearly, newly qualified trainees are hired to act as classroom aides in their placement classes. Employment is offered upon completion of their programme.
First fully practice-based training programme in Zambia
Quality teaching diplomas and qualification upgrades
Trainees offered employment upon completion of their programme

This is the first fully practice-based training programme in the country offering quality teaching diplomas and qualification upgrades at a number of levels.

At present, this academy provides training for two qualifications that include a post graduate diploma in teaching and learning, and a primary teacher's diploma.

Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching and Learning - participants must have gained a degree in either a maths or science related discipline in order to qualify. The duration of the training is 1 year followed by a year employed as a newly qualified teacher (NQT).

Primary Teachers Diploma - participants must be in possession of a quality grade 12 certificate with at least a merit in English, Maths and Science. The duration of the programme is 2 years. The aims in teacher training are threefold:

  • To improve educational attainment in schools
  • To reduce the 'brain drain' of Zambian talent out of the country
  • To engender an outcome based active learning methodology

Trainees are provided with mentors and guidance materials to help them engage in learning about teaching through experience in the classroom.

Attendance at weekly pedagogy lectures is compulsory and assessment is through continuous assessment. Each year a new cohort of new trainees are recruited in August to begin their training in the following January.
